Gladys Helena (Bryant) Swanson, 99, a life-long Janesville area resident passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Azura Memory Care in Clinton where she had resided the past six years. Gladys was born in Beloit on August 22, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Groth) Bryant. She married Emil Howard Swanson on October 31, 1933 in Oregon, IL. Gladys was employed at Freeman Shoe Company until retiring in 1979. She was a long time member of Shopiere Congregational Church, O. E. S. Chapter # 69 and the  Auxiliary of  Richard Ellis American Legion Post # 205 in Janesville. Gladys was an avid Packers fan and enjoyed traveling, especially with her family.
Surviving are four children, Joann (William) Carroll of Chambersburg, PA, Charles Dennis (Virginia) Swanson of Janesville, Karen (Lloyd) Baumann of Clinton, WI, Henry Ed (Jean) Swanson of Shopiere, WI, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Emil Swanson in 1975, her son, James H. Swanson in 1999, her daughter, Sonja (Swanson) Starry in 2001 and her daughter, Barbara (Swanson) Lehman in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Arden Bryant and her sister, Alice (Bryant) Siebecker.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville with Eastern Star services at 6 p.m. Monday. Private family funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31st at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Norman Starks will officiate.
